URBAN LIVING - open air thoughts

In contrast with the speed of the lime lived in the city.
An expanded, temporary and itinerant space for the passer-by.

Detaching for a moment from the surroundings and accommodating in his own urban living room, the passer-by dedicate to himself the time for his own thoughts and ponders, making them available for digital video-memory .

The city is loosing his public space dimension to define itself in a no-place, a passage, a space not perceived and recognized as commune and collective.

Putting in the middle the imperfect gestures of the everyday life, we wish to pick the opportunities that a short unexpected pause can give: a personal path to feel the public space that becomes mirror in which being reflected and on which reflect, giving space to passer-by as protagonist and witness of the lifestyle and the perception of the urban places.

Recollecting free thoughts, desires, dreams, fears and reflections of passers-by, stimulating a comparison and inspiring a free, extended, communication with the surroundings that encircles us.

This research on field, in the streets, will give as result a video collection of spontaneous testimonies, that could also be considered a glare of the contemporary society.

ITINERANT SPACE

The initiative uses easy transportable elements that allow the temporary existence of the living room idea. This space of conversation will be delimited by a carpet spread in the public places, on which will be placed a seat, a sofa, a small table and a lamp, reconstructing therefore a domestic atmosphere in the urban space.

Two video cameras will be placed to record the entire scene, the surrounding space, the participations and the moments of dialogue. The plan does not preview interviews, but it wants to allow, to those who will want to sit down in the urban living room, to feel free in expressing their own ideas and their own thoughts, also in relation to the city context in which, in that moment, the living room will be found:

SQUARES, STREETS and CITY PLACES: air, the light the clouds and the sun; the public space, living it, perceiving it and thinking it us such; visions, opinions, proposals, alternatives; the citizens and the city, the urban public art...

STATIONS, AIRPORTS, PORTS: the time, the space, the place and its identity, arrive, departures, encounter, the travel and the movement, the public transportation and the sustainable transports.

PUBLIC EVENTS: the topic will be studied and discussed about the context and the thematic of the events or directly related.

Our travel in search of the free expressions of the individuals that we will meet on our path and with which we will share a sensitive pause, will depart from the Train Station of Lissone, place of continuity in the process of AreaOdeon.

Staring from the disinstallation from the wall of the station of the AO furniture elements, that will constitute the setting of the Urban Living room, we will generate a first living tour in the city of Lissone, stimulating free thoughts.

MILANO - 5/9 APRIL 2006
In occasion of the International Furniture Fair, event that it will involve the whole city of Milan (from the central and dominant places to the more lateral) the itinerant Urban Living will stop in public open spaces of the city with the attempt to stimulate and to recollect metropolitan reflections in particular and creative moment of the city.

We will share the thoughts of those who are involved and live the world of design as professionals, customers, students, or onlookers... and also of those who are totally strangers to it.
